News of the projects of Hand in Hand für Uganda e. V. in summer 2026
1. Annual Financial Statements 2025 and Corporate Income Tax Exemption
The official audit of the Südverein (following called South Association) for the calendar year 2025 has been completed (EVLO and Company, Cerified Public Accountants, Kampala, Uganda). The costs for this amounted to just under 500 euros. The audit of the Nordverein (following called North Association) was compared with the local figures and found to be correct.
On 9 July 2026, the Munich Tax Office for Corporations granted the Association a current exemption notice for corporation tax valid until 31.12.2030.
2. School fees – Certificates – Semester fees – Nutrition
The 2nd term 2026 is coming to an end. The costs for about 40 children in primary and secondary school amount to 4,200 euros per term. The four young people who are studying and training needed 2,785 euros for the 2nd semester.
Expenditure on food so far for 2026 has been around 6,000 euros.
Where certificates and letters have been transmitted, we have forwarded them to the respective sponsors.
3. Management South Association
Betty Nakayigo, Beker Lubega and Veronica Nakyanzi are currently officially registered with the Uganda Registration Service Bureau (URSB) on the board of the South Association.
Since the beginning of 2025, the board of the North Association has been requesting in vain an officially registered extension.
The aim is to rejuvenate the board, to involve responsible young adults for the future and thus also to relieve Ms. Nakajigo. This is now finally to be implemented promptly and supplemented with Henry Kizza, Vincent Muyima, Angel Niwamanya and Paul Kimbugwe.
The young people living in the project show a great sense of responsibility and solidarity. They have completed training and support the Association's work positively. Their activities apart from Ms. Nakajjgo's daily assistance are mainly in the care of the children, including attending schools and helping with homework, as well as in organizing and supporting the medical project, agriculture, general caretaker activities and communication with the villagers.
4. Property wall – the permanent problem
After the complete renewal of the supporting wall on the northern property at a cost of approx. 1,600 euros in September 2025, it was now in danger of collapsing elsewhere and had to be renewed as well for 2,700 euros.
In Uganda, drainage and drainage facilities are not common in houses or walls, but they are placed directly on the subsoil – regardless of the condition. We have repeatedly demanded gravel, reinforcement or gutters, but implementation is almost impossible due to ignorance.
It is incomprehensible why two batteries installed in 2020, which were installed for safety reasons for wall lighting, have already broken down. The cost of replacement was about €1,200. Greater care in handling was urged.
5. Renovation
The amount calculated for the renovation of the building had to be reallocated in favor of the repair of the wall (see point 4 above).
6. Well pump
The water supply of the orphanage and meeting center is based on rainwater and a deep well that supplies drinking water.
The solar-powered pump initially installed for this purpose only worked .......... years and a replacement became necessary. Since the same pump would have cost about 4,000 euros in Uganda, we procured a high-quality replacement in Germany for about 1,250 euros and installed it. Unfortunately, this high-tech solution did not work sufficiently. Error messages in the electronics stopped production, and the system had to be reactivated. Two people were often busy for half a day for this purpose.
We did not receive solutions from the manufacturer and seller, even though countless inquiries, telephone calls and e-mail contacts were made. Although the company was provided with all the necessary technical data about the requirements, we finally received the information that this pump would not be suitable for our purposes. Even the attempt to increase the voltage and current by expanding additional solar panels did not bring the error-free operation of the pump.
After a year and several email contacts under the ultimate threat of calling in a lawyer, the delivery company has finally sent us an informative instruction manual and even refunded the purchase price. Our electrician and solar expert is now trying to find a final solution in the electronics and by reducing the pressure.
7. Boys' toilets
In June, we received the news that the seat pit of the boys' toilet, which was emptied in 2025, is full. It is not possible to empty it again, as the pit has not been bricked or concreted. The hole in the ground would collapse under the building.
Now we have a cost estimate of 5,300 € for the professional construction of four toilets and three shower cubicles, with a guarantee (?) that permanent emptying will be guaranteed.
Since the Association does not have these funds, various proposals were exchanged to reduce the costs (craftsmen from the village, personal contribution of young people from the project, reuse of building materials, etc.). No significant cost reduction could be achieved, as our proposals would supposedly only be feasible to a limited extent. Finally, the VS has decided to transfer 4,000 € at the moment. It remains to be seen how far this can be implemented.
